Upper Lough Erne

Upper Lough Erne, a shallow expanse stretching southeast of Enniskillen for about 12 miles, is a maze of islands. These include Belle Isle (where the Annals of Ulster were written in the late C15th), Bleanish Island, Dernish Island, Inishcorkish, Inishcrevan, Inishfendra, Inishleague, Inishlught, Inishturk, Killygowan Island, Naan Island and Trannish. Several of the islands are privately owned, and occasionally come on to the open market. In 2007 Inishturk went on the market at £695,000.

Inishliroo, one of the supposed365 islands on Lough Erne,  has 18 acres with its own private jetty and full planning permission for a 185 sq m (2,000 sq ft ) house. The present owner, businessman Noel Cox, bought the island in 2007. Previously owned by four generations of the Maguire family, their home remains in tact and is currently the only building on the island. After WWII the island was famous for its fruit production.
